LGBTQ Career Resources

We are celebrating LGBTQ History Awareness Month in October. Check out the link below to hear and get advice from alumni/alumnx!

As an Out for Work Gold Certified Career Center, we are committed to creating an open and safe space for University of Michigan students who identify as LGBTQ.  When transitioning to the workplace, whether for a job or internship, students might encounter questions like:

Letters of Reference

Letters of reference provide admissions committees with additional perspectives on your past performance and future potential. Consequently, when asking an individual to write a letter, consider who can comment specifically on your skills and abilities related to your chosen career area.  The American Association of Medical Colleges has developed a set of guidelines on how to write effective reference letters in support of medical school application.

AdviseStream

The Career Center no longer supports AdviseStream.  Current subscribers are being contacted individually.  Questions may be directed to [email protected].

Medical Education Is Changing

Medical school education and training are undergoing sweeping changes, with major implications for pre-medical education and the medical school admissions process.  Be sure to consult periodically with your pre-medical academic advisor in your school or college and the pre-medical counselors in the Career Center for assistance along the way.

Workforce Recruitment Program

Workforce Recruitment Program

What is WRP?

WRP is a federal government sponsored recruitment and referral program that connects college students and recent graduates with disabilities to paid summer internships and full-time positions. WRP is managed by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity (ODMEO).

MCAT2015

The 2015 MCAT exam is designed to help admissions committees select students who are academically prepared to enter medical school.  It is important that you understand how the MCAT2015 is structured and scored, how often it is administered, and how it is used in the admissions process.

Health Vignette

Your youngest brother, Eric, is hit by a car trying to avoid a huge pothole while riding his bike.  As you examine his arm covered in blood, you see something white protruding from the skin of his arm.  Alarmed, you call 911.  Within 12 minutes the Emergency Medical Unit arrives. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) quickly surveys the scene and reassures you that Eric is okay. The EMT splints Eric's arm and collects relevant medical data from you.

Easier to use ABA Standard 509 Law School Reports

In the past, prospective law school applicants had to research schools by collating various pieces of information from miscellaneous sources, which unfortunately were not always accurate nor reliable.

Graduate School

Every year, at least one fourth of all University of Michigan seniors enter graduate or professional programs immediately upon graduation, while many others will wait a few years prior to pursuing an advanced degree.

Should you go to graduate school? Only you can answer that question, but the decision will be a lot easier and sounder if you tap into all resources available to you on campus and beyond—professors, advisors, career counselors, UM alumni, family and friends—to help you:
