Resources for Students with Disabilities
The internship and job search process can be overwhelming for any student. The University Career Center is committed to supporting students with both visible and non-visible disabilities throughout their career exploration and preparation process.
There are many important things to consider when approaching the internship or job search and when applying to graduate programs. Many students may experience questions dealing with the following:
- What laws apply to me?
- Your rights when seeking employment.
- What are my rights under the ADA?
- What is "reasonable accommodation"?

JOB AND INTERNSHIP SEARCH RESOURCES
Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP): WRP connects undergraduate, graduate students and recent graduates with disabilities who are interested paid internships and full-time opportunities to private sector employers and federal agencies
Bender Consulting: Assists individuals with disabilities in getting hired and recruited for positions within the private and public sector
Lime Connect: This organization assists student with scholarships, professional development webinars along with information about internships and full-time job opportunities
Entry Point: Entry Point is a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that offers internship opportunities for students with disabilities. Internships will range in discipline from Computer Science, Business to Science and Engineering
disABLEDperson, Inc.: Great resource for job listings and scholarship information.
Autism Alliance of Michigan: Upbound at Work, a subsidiary of the Autism Alliance of Michigan, has partnered with a variety of employers – from international companies to family-run businesses – to connect individuals with disabilities to the best employment opportunity for them. Individuals that we place with our partner employers are supported by on-the-job coaching, good benefits, and an intentionally inclusive company culture. Students and graduates interested in employment via Upbound at Work can complete their application online.
Emerging Leaders Summer Internship Program for College Students with Disabilities: Provides students with internship and leadership development opportunities.
The American Association of People with Disabilities: This organization provides a Congressional Internship Program for College Students with Disabilities. It’s open to undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to recent grads

Job Accommodation Network: JAN has information on job accommodations and additional resources
Office of Disability Employment Policy: Provides articles and resources on national leadership focused on disability and employment policy
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 Titles I and V: Specific information on employment discrimination laws
Employment Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities: Read on to learn about navigating the path to employment as a person with a disability, and find how to evaluate an employer’s standards of accessibility, accommodation, and acceptance in order to find the right career fit.
Connecting Students with Disabilities and Employment: Video of the Career Panel hosted on campus. Information was given on how students can approch the internship and job search process with a disability, in addition to laws and rights every student should be aware of.
American Foundation for the Blind: AFB provides a list of visually impaired and blind mentors that students can connect with depending on the career interests. Students can also explore careers through this site and receive tips on the career search
US Business Leadership Network: USBLN shows how an organization promotes and recognizes best practices when it comes to hiring and marketing to individuals with disabilities
