Employer Challenges

Rialto Capital Employer Challenge

"Looking back on my freshman year, the Employer Challenge was a great introduction to the business and consulting space. I was never one to jump into competitions or public speaking events in high school, so I was a bit nervous coming into the challenge, but the feedback we received from the Meijer team really grew my confidence and visual/verbal presentation skills. A lot of my peer mentees have asked me about ways to learn more about business beyond the usual coursework and clubs, and I always end up recommending the employer challenges to them.”

The UCC Employer Challenge allows students to build deep connections with organizations through short-term, mini-projects that might be virtual, hands-on, case studies, and more. Each semester, we will be engaging with different organizations to bring a virtual project to our Ann Arbor campus that students can work on over 1-2 weeks to better understand different job functions/industries. The goal of the Employer Challenge is not only to help students better understand different areas of work, but also to receive critical feedback on the content, creativity, and overall presentation of their final project from the employer sponsor. Students that engage in the Employer Challenge will also connect with employers in a way that allows them to deeply understand the organization and learn about various roles that they can recruit for in the future.

There will be 20-40 students that participate in each Employer Challenge depending on the scope of the case study/project. Students can apply on behalf of a team (2-4 people on a team) and will work together in person and/or offline throughout the week. All participants must be U-M Ann Arbor undergraduate students.

NOTE: Due to high student demand, student participation may be limited to one challenge per semester.

The image is an informational poster about the UCC Employer Challenge. It is divided into several sections with text and visuals. The top left section in a blue background poses the question, "WHAT ARE EMPLOYER CHALLENGES?" and explains the Employer Challenge's purpose and benefits for students. Adjacent to this, on the right, is a photograph of five people standing together, one holding a sign that reads "Employer Challenge." Behind them is a colorful wall of small square artworks. Below, the section titled "CHALLENGE OVERVIEW" in black text on a white background, outlines the process from "Case Distribution" to "Final Presentations," including "Employer Office Hours" and "Working Time." In a section with a yellow background titled, "YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE IF YOU WANT TO:", reasons for participation are listed in bullet points and include learning more about the employer industry, connecting with professionals, enhancing skills, and building self-confidence. The bottom left section, "FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS," in white text on a dark blue background, answers questions about assessment criteria, past examples, and how to sign up. Next to it, a photograph shows a small group of people observing a presentation inside an indoor space decorated with a colorful wall piece. Finally, at the bottom right, "CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS!" provides contact information and includes student feedback.
