Job and Internship Resources
- Handshake: A pathway to career connections. Through this tool you can: Explore job and internship openings, engage in recruiting activities with employers, and develop and track your goals and next steps. You can also identify University Career Center events, workshops, and fairs and schedule an appointment with a UCC coach to discuss your ideas, and develop plans, and strategies related to graduate/professional schools, and employment.
- African-American Hires: Are you an African American professional looking to change or enhance your career? Listen to the voices of these Black professionals and read about their career stories. This resource also contains lists of employers who value diversity and inclusion in the workplace. These organizations have shown consistent outreach and dedication to recruiting and hiring from all diversity groups.
- Black Career Network: Find your next opportunity through this Professional Diversity Network! You can also see career events that are happening throughout the year.
- Black Career Women’s Network: A national career development organization dedicated to fostering the growth and success of Black women. The organization provides resources, tools and a strong network for women to strategically manage their careers.
- Diversity Employers | Job Search Engine: Includes job and internship postings from employers that support diversity.
- IMDiversity: This resource offers information on important career-related topics, job opportunities, and how to make connections to develop a diverse network.
- Jopwell: A career advancement platform for Black, Latinx, and Native American students and professionals. This startup also helps candidates find jobs and internships.
- Jobs for People of Color in Tech: Explore this platform that connects people of color with jobs in the tech industry.
- The Black Perspective-Bringing together African-American: This site is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in America’s employment and educational arena. They focus on issues and opportunities concerning the African-American community through news and by connecting candidates with employers who foster affirmative action and equal opportunity as part of their corporate policies.
- Urban League Employment Network: The National Urban League supports African-Americans and others in underserved communities to achieve their highest true social parity, economic self- reliance, power, and civil rights. They offer an online job board to help you find jobs, get training and obtain rewarding careers.
Opportunities Related to Graduate & Professional School
- AGEP - Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate: The National Science Foundation's AGEP program is committed to the national goal of increasing the numbers of underrepresented minorities (URMs), including those with disabilities, entering and completing STEM graduate education and postdoctoral training to levels representative of the available pool.
- Resources for People of Color (POCs) in STEM:A detailed list of scholarships, internships, fellowships, graduate application fee waivers, travel grants, and mentors created by a First-Generation, African-American Ph.D. student.

Black Solidarity Conference (BSC): BSC invites over 700 undergraduates of various races, religions, ethnicities, and communities to discuss issues pertaining to the African Diaspora. Through discussions, panels, networking, and social gatherings, students from across the country analyze issues affecting the Black/Afro-diasporic community and explore solutions that can be implemented on their own college campuses. UCAN: UCAN (University Career Alumni Network) is a U of M resource that allows students to connect with university alumni across any broad spectrum of fields, or majors, to gain insight or advice on resumes, interviewing tips, personal statements, and so much more. When exploring Alumni, in the search bar type in “Black/African American” and you will see all the alumni that have self-identified as Black/African American. These Alumni are willingly donating their time on this platform to help students in any way they can with guiding their future steps beyond college.

Association of Black Anthropologists: Brings together Black Anthropologists and other scholars who are concerned with the goals of encouraging the participation of students of anthropology, recruiting Black graduate students, enrolling Black graduate students to the ABA and mentoring students involved in ABA.

Black Enterprise: Educates and empowers its audience to become full participants in wealth creation within the global economy. BLACK ENTERPRISE provides relevant information for success-minded people at every stage of their financial journey- from recent college graduates taking that first step toward financial independence to seasoned mid-lifers looking to maximize career options and investment opportunities.

ColorComm: Business Community for Women of Color in the Communications Industry: A leading women’s platform addressing diversity and inclusion across communications, marketing, advertising and media industries. Its mission is to connect like minded individuals and develop a network of leaders by creating mentors/mentees, business relationships and friendships.

National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA): An organization dedicated to bridging the opportunity gap for Black accounting and finance professionals by providing leadership and technical training, as well as networking and career opportunities.

National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters: This organization represents the interests of African-American radio and television station owners. Its foundation provides scholarships to students pursuing careers in broadcast and telecommunications management. It also provides training fellowships to participate in NABOB management conferences.

National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA): A nationwide organization created to promote the educational, professional, political, and social needs of Black law students. It offers opportunities to improve the relationship between Black law students, Black attorneys, and the American legal structure, and encourages Black law students to pursue careers in the judiciary.

National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ): An organization of African-American journalists, students, and media professionals providing programs/ services to and advocate on behalf of black journalists. NABJ awards scholarships to enrich and support the academic experience of students pursuing careers in journalism, media, and communications. It hosts an intensive training workshop to write stronger articles given the increasing demands to tell stories through different forms – visuals, social media, and websites building strong foundations for newsroom jobs.

National Black MBA Association, Inc. (NBMBAA): This organization is dedicated to enhancing and developing educational and economic empowerment for African Americans. Members have access to the Webinar Academy that focuses on skill-building topics related to personal, professional, and financial growth. Host NBMBAA hosts Think Tanks and case competitions for graduate and undergraduate students where participants compete for top ranking scholarships and employment opportunities.

National Black Nurses Association, Inc.: NBNA serves as the professional voice for over 200,000 African American registered nurses, licensed vocational/practical nurses, nursing students. The association offers lists of professional opportunities in all nursing fields. They also sponsor a collaborative mentorship program for the purpose of helping NBNA nurses/student nurses at various levels of their development.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE): NSBE offers an active job board focused on Engineering opportunities, access to scholarships offered by corporate sponsors, and information about pursuing graduate school in Engineering.

Organization of Black Designers: Career resources for both employers and a broad spectrum of designers to promote diversity in design. The organization supports designers in a spectrum of areas including: web design, fashion, graphics and more. An internship posting board with current opportunities is also available.

The Association of Black Psychologists: This association seeks to increase Black students’ participation in research and scholarship, to enhance the professional development of Black students and to increase the overall number of Black clinicians and professionals in the Psychology field. To that end, it offers job postings by specialty and state location, as well as resources to support those pursuing dissertations and clinical internships.

The Chicago Committee’s Legal Trek Program: The Chicago Committee and DePaul University College of Law partner to host LegalTrek which is a summer program for diverse, undergraduate students interested in the legal profession. Over the course of eight sessions students learned about different practice areas, the law school application process, LSAT prep, participate in mock negotiations, a mock trial, and visit legal places of employment. Attorneys volunteered as mentors and coaches for the program.

The publication informs, educates, and promotes employment opportunities within corporate America to create equal opportunities in more diverse workplaces.
- Diversity Inc. Career Center: Features job listings from the publishers of Diversity Inc. As well as helpful articles and webinars. There is also a list of “Top 50 for Diversity”.

Equal Opportunity Publications: Equal Opportunity Publications, Inc. (EOP) has led the way in diversity recruitment with a portfolio of seven national career magazines, a diversity website, an online job board, and Career Expos for women, members of minority groups and people with disabilities.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP): A civil rights organization whose vision is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race; including the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens.
