What’s your favorite thing to do in a typical day?
My favorite thing is to interact with my fellow coworkers to learn more about the history and opportunities of the company. I also enjoy attending learning sessions held by experienced employees that help me better understand the industry.
What’s your least favorite thing to do in a typical day?
My least favorite thing is the time between finishing a project and starting a new one. In my opinion being busy is a good thing.
How did you decide on this field? How did you get hired?
Working at BP affords me the opportunity to work in different assets of business such as marketing, sales, finance, and supply. The challenger program is what initially drew me to BP. It is great to work for such a large company that is so tied to the world’s economy. I attended various recruiting events at U of M’s campus during the fall and made it through first- and second-round interviews.
How does your Michigan experience help you in your job?
Michigan provided me the business education background that I use everyday on the job. However, the most important asset that Michigan gave me was the professional and networking skills I learned from my co-ed business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi.
What are possible next steps for your career? Is another degree required or recommended?
I would like to receive an MBA in the next five years. It is not required for BP, however it is recommended, not only for this industry but for the business world in general.
What do you wish you had known as an undergraduate preparing for your career?
I wish that someone told me to research the particular industry that I was going to work in before starting the job. I do a lot of training during the first few years as a new hire, however having prior education of the industry is beneficial.
