University Career Center

Image for the Cool Jobs and Internships picks for the week of Feb. 4th

UPDATE: The Career Center has transitioned to a new platform called "Handshake". Career Center Connector is no longer accessible and has been replaced by Handshake.

Every Wednesday, join us here as we plan to highlight a few positions that we think you'll find particularly interesting. Learn more by checking out each pick on the Career Center Connector (C3). While you're there, see what other interesting opportunities you find! C3 is a great way to start exploring your career options and it is also the best way to stay informed on what you need to know as a job or internship seeker while you're a student here at U of M. Besides housing a resume builder, C3 also contains information about employer presentations, career fairs, work-shops, and on-campus interviews.

DUSTY'S PICK: 2015 Summer Fellow - Harvard Law School Office of Public Interest Advising
JOB ID: 51142
APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 15, 2015

For juniors who are interested in gaining exposure to legal issues, public interest issues, and general writing skills, this summer internship would be a great choice. Undergraduates often find that paid summer work in legal fields is scarce. This job not only offers excellent experience and the chance to develop some broadly applicable skills, it's paid at $12/hour. Boston is a pretty cool place to spend a summer, and having Harvard (and Michigan, of course!) on your resume increases your chances of getting noticed on future applications. Lots of interesting, similar positions appear on C3 when doing an advanced search for "communications/writing" in the job function field.

ANGEL'S PICK: School Operations Manager - Detroit 90/90
JOB ID: 51661
APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 3, 2015

For those who want to stay in Michigan, specifically in Detroit, why not join an organization that directly impacts education reform?

I found this opportunity by searching for jobs and internships in Detroit in the Advanced Search field. It is a full time position that is hiring all majors from all degree levels. What I really like about this opportunitiy -- as a native Detroiter -- is that the role connects you with all areas of the school from the principal to assisting with bugets and even developing training programs for new and seasoned teachers. The School Operations Manager at Detroit 90/90 is right in the heart of the city! It's in a great location, the work is meaningful, and who wouldn't want to be less than 5 minutes from the historic Motown Museum!
