Lynn K. Halton, Public Service Intern Program Supervisor

Lynn's Pick

LYNN'S PICK: Internship Program at the New York City Mayor's Office

I particularly liked the New York City Mayor’s Office Internship Program because it offers students from various ages and skill levels the chance to work collaboratively to solve New York City’s most pressing issues. The work assignment component (conducting research, attending meetings, managing incoming inquiries, data analysis, drafting briefings, staffing events, outreach and special projects) gives interns the chance to expose themselves to a pipeline of work that will be instrumental to becoming future public service leaders, should they choose to pursue such a career.

The internship also offers a rare and elusive opportunity to attend a Speaker Series at City Hall with guest speakers including Deputy Mayors, Commissioners, Program Directors, and other senior staff. Lastly, the internship is acutely exciting for its service project, where interns will collaborate not only with each other, but also with NYC Service (the volunteering arm of New York City), with the aim of providing for disfavored communities and other New Yorkers that are in need.
