NATE'S PICK: Student Intern at Meridian Health Plan
APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 6, 2016
We have a lot of students who are interested in the health care field so when I saw this internship for Meridian Health Plan, which is located in downtown Detroit, I thought it’d be a great opportunity to get experience in the health care field while also getting a chance to learn about and explore more of Detroit.
There are a number of departments that are looking for summer interns. So regardless of what type of job responsibilities you’re looking for the odds are high that they’ll have something for you.
Human Resources, Pharmacy, Communications, IT, Training & Development, Legal/Compliance, and Finance are just a few of the areas you could focus on.
As an added bonus/tip, most organizations of this size with this level of department variety usually have some type of way for you to experience what it’s like in other areas of the company — which makes exploring your options through an internship that much easier.
Even if they don’t have that you should still be able to ask your supervisor (or a colleague) if they know someone you can chat with in another department you may be interested in. This would allow you to really utilize your summer lunches to explore the rest of the organization and also make some connections for later down the road.
Check out the summer projects that are available and see if any of those fit with some of the experiences and skills you’re looking to further develop. See how you can apply some of what you’ve learned in the classroom in a more business setting.
