Secondary Applications
Individual medical schools will send secondary applications after
receipt of your primary application. The secondary applications
may duplicate some of the information you have already provided,
ask you to provide new information, and/or provide additional
essays.
You will send your letters of reference at the time of the secondary
applications or as prompted by the schools. It is very important to handle the secondary applications
just as seriously as the primary application, and to return them
in a timely fashion. (Application fees will likely be involved.)
Some general do's and don’ts concerning secondary applications:
Do’s
- Answer all questions thoroughly—especially, multi-part
questions--but respect space limitations if given
- Do go the extra mile and write any “optional” essay,
as long as you have something meaningful to say
- Tailor your responses to each school—do whatever research
may be necessary
Don’ts
- Do not cut and paste portions of the same essay that you used
in your primary application
- Do not submit an application that reflects information that
is inconsistent with was provided elsewhere or previously in your
application
- Do not quote directly from a school catalog in an effort to
“tailor” your essay
- Do not write “see attached resume” instead of answering
questions fully
Feel free to bring your questions about secondary applications to The Career Center counselors during drop-in advising. Please call 734/764-7460 for schedule details.
