Interviews
If you are invited for a medical school interview, this is a very
good indication that the school is seriously considering you as
an applicant. Beyond academic excellence, medical schools are generally
looking for maturity, passion about medicine, altruism, exposure
to the medical field, and strong interpersonal skills.
Below are some resources to assist you with your interview preparation:
- For information on medical school interviews, their structure
and format, typical questions asked, etc., link to the handout
Understanding the Medical
School Interview.
- Peruse resources to familiarize yourself with current
issues in medical education and practice.
- Look up the medical school interview feedback on the studentdoctor.net website, as a way to familiarize yourself with the type of questions and interview formats at various schools nationwide. As you peruse these reports, keep in mind that while helpful, these are still individual, somewhat anecdotal experiences and should be evaluated within the context of all the other information that you will gather about a given school.
- Take advantage of OptimalInterview*,
a handy online resource that allows you to practice questions
on camera from the comfort and convenience of your home.
*Once logged in, go to the Skills Center and click on New Interview. Name your new interview, then follow the on-screen instructions to begin your videotaped practice interview.
- Arrange for a videotaped practice interview at The Career Center
as the final dress rehearsal in your preparation process. Call
734/764-7460 to schedule your appointment.
- Review relevant resources in The Career Center’s Library:
our collection includes books on general interview preparation
as well as specific medical school interviews.
- Speak with a pre-medical counselor in The Career Center. Take
advantage of drop-in advising or call the office at 734/764-7460
to schedule an appointment.
